I can’t imagine leaving my dog’s poo laying around. Cooper is a 90 lb. Lab x Bernese Mountain dog, his are not little.

But first things first…

I have Cooper on a schedule, I feed him the same amount of food at the same times each day.

I go outside with him every morning at the same time and I usually bring my coffee out so I can relax while he’s sniffing around for the perfect spot.

This sniffing and walking helps get things moving for him so I don’t rush him. I have an area in my back yard especially for him to go in, which is important so I don’t lose track of the dog and the poo.

I always know whether he’s gone in the morning and since I scoop it, I also know how much he’s gone. And because I know when and how much I’m feeding him, I can estimate when he’ll need to go next. This is important to know, especially if we’ll be in a public building sometime that day.

What happens if he doesn’t go in the morning?

It can happen. So, if he doesn’t go, I always give him the opportunity before we enter a public building.

My guide dog and I visit schools to raise awareness for sight loss; the kids’ questions make great stories! Plus, I love books and writing book reviews. 🇨🇦
