The Lady Who is 92: Getting a Haircut and a Real Job

She’s a gem – some days a blue sapphire and other days a shiny pearl, but always a gem

My singing is like talk-singing.

Last Wednesday, at breakfast with my mom, she said she needed a haircut, so I sang, “Get a haircut and get a real job.”

She looked at me like, “What the… ?”

And I sang, “Clean your act up and don’t be a slob.”

Then she actually said, “What the…?”

So I continued, “Get it together like your big brother Bob, get a haircut and get a real job.”

She laughed and asked me, “Wherever did you hear that silly rhyme?”

I told her it was a rock classic.

Breakfast was pancakes with blueberries and bacon. I got gypped since my guide dog Cooper loves bacon and looks longingly at me whenever I have it — it’s tough to resist that look.

Anyway, after breakfast, there’s a six-minute walk and an elevator ride from the dining room back to her suite.

It takes six minutes because her rate of speed is slow.

With my guide dog, Cooper, I volunteer at the CNIB and visit schools to raise awareness for sight loss. Dogs and kids’ questions make the best stories. 🇨🇦
